There's a new book imprint in town, and I think it wants all other imprints out of town by sundown. Or else!

In the meantime they have a very cool blog that is featuring essays from some of the best crime writers in the business - whether they are being published by said imprint or not. That's a real testament to the enthusiasm being generated by the forces behind this crime line. Check it out:

Missed being a 70s release by THAT much.....

Yeah, it came out in 1981, but it fits right in with the Golden Era of Adult Crime-Dramas of the 70s, many of which can be found further down this page. UA didn't know how to sell it (as is evidenced in this trailer) or it would be far better known today. But those who have seen it can testify to its greatness. I wish a special edition Blu-Ray would see the light of day, but I doubt it will ever happen. You'll have to settle for a plain wrapped DVD with no extras.

The book (CUTTER AND BONE) by Newton Thornburg is also terrific.

The next viral video

Hope Ray doesn't catch anything. (But I'm glad to see he's still getting it done at 90.)

Whatever happened to the separation between cheap consumer goods and State?

Lest we forget....

Double Digits!

I just noticed that we have cracked double digits on the "followers of JAFO" list.

Welcome to the flock Number 10.

I am the new Number 2.

(And don't even ask who Number 1 is. It won't get you anywhere. Except maybe chased by the big white bubbly ball thing we keep out in the lagoon.)

The plastic bottle that holds your water will one day be held by water

Will we stop messing up this planet before it has to find a way to cast us off?

(I think it is already working on the problem, so we better get to work as well.)

I guess this really is no country for old men

Is it just me or does the "training" that this young girl went through appear to be extreme psychological child abuse to anyone else out there? To say nothing of the actual filming of the movie itself.

I know it's all just fun and games, but the trivialization of violence in this society seems to be hitting the wall and busting right through it with this flick.

I'm going to go sit in my rocking chair and stew for a few minutes. Then I guess it will be time for my daily dose of bran. Dag nabbit!

Get 'em while you can!

It's hard to believe but Amazon is currently discounting the Blu-Ray edition of Kubrick's 2001 to $7.99. (Some of his other titles are pretty well discounted also, but none that cheap.) Pick up a few other titles and the shipping is free.

This little dude is amazing!

Just think how great he'll be by the time his voice drops. Hope he keeps playing the blues.
